All browsers support the YUV 4:2:0 pixel format. Other pixel formats (e.g. YUV 4:2:2 coming from Apple QuickTime hand-camera footage) may play fine in Chrome and one of Firefox/Safari yet produce a silent black screen in the other. Always convert output to YUV 4:2:0 to avoid silent-failure playback bugs.
