Crossing the Chasm

concept 1 connections

Geoffrey Moore's product-development model describing the difficulty of moving a technology from innovators/early adopters to the early majority. The 'chasm' is social: early adopters and the early majority don't share social circles, workplaces, or communication channels, so knowledge struggles to cross. Bellware uses it to explain why OO design knowledge so rarely reaches the Rails majority — the majority follows the majority, not the exceptional.
