Education tool used worldwide by millions of students and teachers. Teachers post homework / worksheets; students fill them in and submit; teachers grade and mark up. Front-end is a standard Rails application; all heavy lifting (processing millions of PDFs per day) is done by a backend JRuby service using fast, standards-compliant JVM PDF libraries. The workload would not be feasible without JRuby.
