OpenTelemetry lowers vendor lock-in but switching costs remain

Using OpenTelemetry semantic conventions makes it meaningfully cheaper to move between observability vendors as prices climb, but teams remain locked into vendor-specific alerts, dashboards, and UIs. OTel reduces — rather than eliminates — switching costs.
