Proleptic Calendar

concept 1 connections

A calendar where the modern rule set (typically Gregorian) is applied backwards beyond its historical adoption. How most computer calendar apps work when scrolled into the distant past. Not historically meaningful — a proleptic date doesn't tell you what day a real person in, say, 1205 would have observed — but it avoids having to ask 'which city are we talking about?' and whether a date even existed.
