No Hello Rule

concept 1 connections

Chat-communication norm (originating in Polish workplaces, trivially translatable to English) Amelia Walter-Dzikowska recommends. Don't open a chat message with 'hi, how are you, do you have a minute?' — receivers who are focused or receive it from HR start worrying about promotions or firing. Instead, open with 'hi, I'm writing to you about X' and describe the issue, optionally closing with 'could you write back when you have five spare minutes?'. Remains polite, dramatically more efficient, and scales if the whole team adopts it.
